Paramhansa Yogananda came to America in 1920 bringing a new dispensation of the timeless wisdom of India’s rishis and the practical and nonsectarian practices of meditation, especially Kriya Yoga. He is perhaps best known through his life story, Autobiography of a Yogi, now a spiritual classic in eighteen languages.

Swami KriyanandaAnanda was founded in 1968 by Swami Kriyananda (J. Donald Walters), a direct disciple of Paramhansa Yogananda. Swami Kriyananda has devoted a lifetime of service (books, music, lectures, and by example) showing how the precepts of Self-realization apply to all aspects of daily life.
